THE venue

The cohort performed at the Woodland Cultural Centre, Brantford, situated beside the former Mohawk Institute Residential School, which officially closed in 1970. The Woodland Cultural Centre serves to preserve and strengthen Indigenous language, culture, art and history.

Participants captivated their audience with their powerful projects and experiences. They were joined by esteemed guests who included Dr. Beverly Jacobs, Senior Advisor to the President on Indigenous Relations and Outreach, Office of the President, University of Windsor; Dr. Cathy Martin, Director at First Nations Education Administrators Association; Dr. Michael Doxtater, Associate Professor, The Creative School at Toronto Metropolitan University; Teharontorens George Doxtater, Language Assistant Manager and Digitizer of Woodland Cultural Centre; spoken word performer Krystal Riverz and Grandmother Renee Thomas-Hill, Haudenosaunee Elder. The presentations also featured a performance by artist William Monague (drumming) and his sister Katelyn Dyment (singing).

“Woodland Cultural Centre is thrilled to be collaborating with [WhereWeStand], a creative and innovative artistic project that brings together Indigenous and Newcomer communities to build relationships and engage in important conversations about how we build relationships of radical-care and solidarity through artistic expression.”
