Being a member of a minority group might be visible, but our struggles might not be visible, and our voices might not be heard. We crafted this narrative to echo the experiences of Indigenous individuals and immigrants in Canada. The music intertwines elements of Canadian Indigenous and Chinese melodies, reflecting the diverse cultural tapestry of our nation. The dance moves are inspired by traditional Chinese and Chinese-ethnic-minority group dances. The performance utilizes plastic sheets as props, symbolizing the often-underrecognized barriers and challenges faced by minority communities. Through this work, we hope to provide glimpses of the journey towards reclaiming and expressing identities, languages and traditions.
